We’re not livestreaming yet

The Folklore to Fringe Modern Witchcraft Today talk is happening this Thursday evening at the Cauldron of Wellbeing, and if you’ve been following along, you’ll know that I originally floated the idea of streaming it live.

Well, I’ve decided not to. I want to explain why.

It’s not because I don’t want to reach people online, I absolutely do. But because I think trying to deliver the same talk to two different audiences at once means that I’ll feel like I’m doing neither particularly well. An in-person audience, and an online audience have different needs an I don’t feel confident juggling both. Different energy. Different ways of asking questions and jumping into a discussion. Trying to serve both simultaneously, for a talk I haven’t delivered before (and frankly, I’m still finishing the slides) is a recipe for a mediocre experience all round.

So Thursday’s talk gets my full attention. Me, fully in the room and hopefully it will encourage some conversation and discussion and I can answer questions as they arise rather than juggling tech, and worrying if people elsewhere can hear me clearly on the mic.

What I will promise is that an online version is coming. It’ll be its own event, and refined for an online audience. If you registered an expression of interest in the livestream, you’ve already received an update about this via email and you’ll be the first to know when the online one is scheduled. If you’re keen to get on that list too and want to know more, pop yourself on the general mailing list. I’ll put an additional link up for the opportunity once our initial folks have been taken care of.

In the meantime, if you really want to be there in person for the debut of this talk this week, you can place yourself on the waitlist. Sometimes people can’t make it at the last minute and they cancel and release their ticket. If space becomes available, you’ll be offered a ticket immediately.

And if Thursday doesn’t work, we have more in-person events coming up — including our Midwinter gathering. Check it out here and we hope to see you soon.
