Soon, I’ll journey back to Scotland, the land of my ancestors, a place that feels so much like home it moves me to tears each time I depart. The moment I cross into Scotland from England, a sense of relaxation washes over me, the weight of the years lifts, and I feel profoundly at home once more. This connection isn’t just emotional; it’s a deep, ancestral longing, embedded in my very bloodline. Scotland’s rich folklore, ancient wisdom, and traditions of witchcraft have always been integral to my heart and my practice. Yet, this visit promises to be uniquely significant.
I plan to honour Isobel Gowdie, the Witch of Auldearn, whose stories and confessions have deeply influenced the historical record of early modern witchcraft in the Scottish Highlands. I will tread where she once did, to connect with the terrain that moulded her, and to seek inspiration from her narrative. The timing of my visit, aligned with the next full moon, will be a powerful moment to honour her spirit. Practising magick in such a historically rich land, under the same moon that countless generations of witches have observed, holds incredible power for me.
Scotland is the place where my practice deepens, where my soul feels rejuvenated, and my connection to ancient traditions becomes more profound. This trip feels like a profound homecoming, one that my dreams have vividly anticipated, revealing names of ancestors unknown to me until I dreamed them and later confirmed their existence and Scottish roots from seven generations back.
This journey will be a testament to the vibrant, evolving nature of my witchcraft—a practice that grows, adapts, and evolves while remaining inspired from afar. As I return to Australia, I’ll bring metaphorical pieces of myself and my ancestral homeland back with me, enriching my practice and my life with the enduring magic of Scotland.
