Essential Tools for Your Witchcraft Practice

3–4 minutes

So many people ask me, where do I start on my witchcraft journey? How do I get into witchcraft or how do I develop my practice? What I’ve always wanted to do as a part of The Pagan Fringe is to encourage everyone’s journey or learning and exploring your witchcraft. After practicing witchcraft for more years than I care to count, what I can safely say now is that now more than ever, it’s so very difficult to discern between great, average and poor information. To remedy that, I’m aiming to curate a collection of resources which might help.

Tools For Your Practice

No, I don’t mean physical items, what I mean is moving beyond books and written resources to the practical tools which might assist you in planning your rituals, assist you in planting a herb garden or understanding the moon phases and seasonal cycles.

  • Herbs and Plant Guides Learn how to identify, source, and use herbs in spellwork, rituals, and teas. Always purchase from Australian suppliers where possible or ask exactly where the herb was grown if you intend to ingest it.
    • Herb Finder – by Happy Herb Co – a super helpful and practical herbal guide and finder for what you might be looking for
    • Spiral Rain – magical properties of herbs – laid out in a table style.
    • Herb Index – Grimoire de Nyx – Australian Witch in Western Australia.
  • Moon Phase and Astrological Calendars Stay in tune with lunar and planetary energies to enhance your timing for rituals and spellwork.
    • Try local resources in your city/state for lunar timings – this is a generic moon phase website that you can adjust for your location.
  • Printable Charts and Templates -Including spell journaling pages, energy correspondences, and ritual planning sheets to help you stay organized – COMING SOON.

Online Community

Finding community is probably why you’re here. It’s often an essential part of a magical path at some point or another. We encourage you to connect with others to share ideas, ask questions and learn and grow together. You’re welcome to connect with us if you’re nearby, or we can suggest contacts that might be helpful.

  • Discord – a very popular medium for folks to connect – look for Discord servers in your area or interest. Our Discord server is here.
  • Forums – forums like Mandragora Magika and Darksome Moon are aiming to replace groups like WitchVox which operated for more than 20yrs and is now defunct. These may help you find a witchcraft community in your area or find a coven near you.
  • Facebook Groups – Facebook is still a popular place for witch and pagan groups. Do a search for groups in your area.
  • Other social media – especially places like BlueSky is now emerging and providing wonderful ways to connect with witches and pagans. Use a hashtag like #witchsky to find others. We are there too on this link 🙂

Workshops and Events

If you’re in the Sydney area or are looking for inspiration for local events, keep an eye on our social media and website for our upcoming in-person Witchcraft events in Western Sydney. These will include:

  • Seasonal rituals aligned with the Wheel of the Year – eg Samhain Ritual
  • Hands on teaching and workshops on spellcraft, herbalism and other topics
  • Community focused events for social meets up like Death Cafe, and Book Circle discussion groups

My aim is to help you feel empowered and connected. Bookmark this page and check back often as we’ll continue adding new resources to support your practice.

If there’s something specific you’d like to see included or discussed, feel free to let us know in the comments or contact us directly via email paganfringe@gmail.com
